Nidderdale SHINE Project
Location: North Yorkshire

This project has been re-formed with a change in objective, which is to introduce archaeology to pupils in primary schools within Nidderdale, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Kevin J Cale of Community Archaeology Ltd, working with volunteers from local LHI sponsored groups will introduce the pupils to archaeology using non-destructive techniques, including fieldwork and desktop studies. This will introduce the pupils to local heritage by studying surrounding landscape and encouraging the recognition of ‘humps and bumps’ as possible archaeological earthworks.

The work will meet school curriculum requirements, and be incorporated into many subjects as well as history and geography.

Output from the pupils will include presentation preparation: writing, artwork, model making, grid referencing, Powerpoint presentations, leaflet publication and drama production.

There will be opportunities for presentation to peers/parents, site visits, field walks and museum visits.
