Oakworth (Holden) Park Mosaic Restoration
Location: North Yorkshire
The group wish to study the history of the mosaics in Holden Park. The mosaics are the remains of a former winter gardens on the site, which were built on the site when it was in private ownership.
The group will conduct community sessions on the mosaics and involve local schools in the interpretation of the heritage of the park through work on new mosaics and their construction.
The group also plan to undertake some restoration work to the existing mosaics, ensuring that they are conserved for future generations. This work will be undertaken by a professional , who will provide talks to the local community on mosaic techniques. A temporary display will also be made for the site by the group giving information about the mosaics and information about the preservation process. The group will also give presentations to the local community and have arranged to take part in an assembly at the local school to involve the children further in the scheme. The group also plan to involve young people in the project by targeting them with specific design workshops, giving them an opportunity to design new mosaics reflecting the history of the park, which will be displayed in the summer house in the park (a popular meeting place for young people). This group will also be invited to produce street banners promoting the project, which will be displayed throughout Oakworth.
