Thruscross Parish East Heritage Project (Phase 2)
Location: North Yorkshire

The group has applied to conduct a thorough non-invasive study of this previously unstudied area. The group will use landscape archaeology techniques in order to survey the local area and study the physical impact of human activity on the landscape.

The group will use archive sources (old maps, written history) to inform their studies and build up a picture of all aspects of the heritage of the area. The information gathered by the group will be entered onto a computer database and stored with the Sites and Monuments Record.

The group intend to hold exhibitions of their findings in several locations in the vicinity to ensure that the scattered community can be involved in the project. They will also publish a newsletter which will be circulated to all local residents to keep local community up to date with the progress of the work.

The group will provide guided walks of the area for the public and will also link these with the local schools. the group will undertake training on landscape survey techniques (supported by community archaeologist) and actively encourage new membership through adverts in the local press and recruitment at the events they hold.

The group will link evidence of social history discovered through the project with the memories of the community wherever possible
