Wartime Memories Phase 2 (Phase 2)
Location: North Yorkshire
The group successfully delivered a popular Phase 1 of this project attracting involvement from 750 people. Phase 1 invited local people to participate in oral history recording sessions and to contribute their old photographs to make a permanent record of local experiences in the district during the 2nd World War in Ryedale.
A digital archive of recordings and photographs has been constructed. Phase 2 will build on their successes. They plan to widen the level of participation by inviting a cross section of people to participate across rural North Ryedale. This includes, the Rye Writers, Lady Lumley's Millennium Volunteers, the museum's education team and students at Scarborough campus. Participants from Phase 1 will consolidate their oral history recording skills. They are members of the Oral History Society and have received guidance from them.
Outputs will include displays in the museum and library, material for the digital archives (with school's index), photographs of ex-service people with their recording, additional material for the LHI and museum websites, a report and an interpretative book (funded under the NBS award). Skills learnt in heritage displays and IT will be enhanced in Phase 2.
