Whitby Archives Computerisation Project
Location: North Yorkshire

The aim of the project is to record and store the vast archive collection of historic photographs, maps, documents and artifacts using computer technology. This will be done using local volunteers plus local community involvement. Local schools and groups will be trained in archiving techniques and in using the new technology. This will allow publication and dissemination of the local heritage collection, not only to the local population but also to a wider public.

In addition it will ensure the safeguarding of the area's assets for future generations in a form which is easily distributable and accessible. For example, the group intends to run adult education classes and design a schools education pack with the help of teachers.
