LHI Digitisation Project
Location: North Yorkshire
Whitby Pictorial Archives Trust and Whitby Heritage Centre have recently embarked on a major heritage project and are looking for assistance from as many locals as possible. In particular, we are looking for people willing to coordinate activities in rural areas and liase with the Heritage Centre.
Volunteers are wanted to digitise archive holdings (photographs, documents, oral history recordings etc.), as well as their own personal pictures, all of which are to be added to a huge database. Work from your own home or use the computer facilities in the Heritage Centre. Full tuition and supervision in the necessary software and devices is available.
Donate original and digital copies of your photographs, to be placed free of charge, alongside the archive’s own collection of some 75,000 images on the fully searchable online gallery.
The contributor and Whitby Archives agree terms in case any of our many thousands of annual enquirers from all over the world want to purchase a high quality printed copy of your picture.
The contributor and Whitby Archives both receive a share of the sale price and for our part, money generated is to be used to sustain Whitby Archives in its capacity as an important store of local heritage for all sectors of the community.
In accordance with our Lottery funding, we will endeavour to accommodate as wide a range of special needs as possible, whether physical, financial or otherwise. The more people we have involved and the wider their range of backgrounds, the greater the chance of success the project stands. Please please get in touch via the contact details to be found elsewhere on this site.
