Strike Performance
Location: Rotherham
On Saturday 19th November 2005, 170 residents of Conisbrough and Denaby queued for 15 minutes in the cold for a once in a lifetime performance at Northcliffe School. The performers were from local schools, an Education Centre and a community group and they had been working hard with artists over the preceding weeks to understand their heritage and write the material they were about to perform. The turnout was impressive, we even ran out of chairs and the participants and audience are still talking about it now!
The performance was one part of this project; an opportunity for the participants to showcase their hard work and commitment. All the material they recorded, including narratives about what they have learnt about Strikes are part of a CD-Rom which will be distributed for access in the local community and by the schools and groups involved in the project. Some of the photo's on this website will form part of an exhibition which should tour local venues in the new year to complement the cd-rom.
