Study of the Vascular Plants Anston Stones WAoods
Location: Rotherham

The group aim to work with local volunteers and children from Anston School to raise awareness of the natural heritage of the local woodland. The group are an active voluntary organisation set up to illustrate the plants that grow locally. They will encourage local volunteers to join them in a project illustrating the plants and fungi that grow on the magnesian limestone areas in the woodland. It is hoped this will enhance people's understanding and knowledge of the woodland that is close to their homes.

Proposals include a series of visits to the woodland throughout the year to illustrate the species at different times of the year accompanied by guided walks in conjunction with local specialists in botany and conservation. Anston School are supportive and groups of children will participate in the project producing their own illustrations and descriptions of the pants. There will be opportunities for participants to gain knowledge of the natural history of the site as an ancient woodland, and gain skills in illustration and presentations.
