Archaeology of the Mouth and the interpretation of Bolsterstone's Historic Site
Location: Sheffield
The first part involves children from Stocksbridge Junior School devising questions to hold an interview session with older people who have links with Bolsterstone.
The information will be recorded in an interpretative leaflet that will be available to everyone on the website and within the village.
Memories/stories and information will be sought regarding; current residents, those who went to school in Bolsterstone, those who married at St Mary's Church, those who have a family grave in the churchyard and those who have lived in the village in the past.
They will also interview people who work or have worked in and around the village, i.e. farm workers, craftsmen, tradesmen, publican PO/Shopkeeper, miners, members of the local history society.
A photographer will record the interview process that will happen over one day. People will be encouraged to bring along photographic and other memorabilia of Bolsterstone to be scanned into a laptop on site to build up a record of material.
The booklet will be produced by the children and will be used to illustrate a talk on the results using a power point projector. A display of the photographs will be included. The publication will be available for distribution to all residents and held at Stocksbridge library.
In the second part. volunteers aim to draw the people's attention to heritage features of Bolsterstone. By mapping them on a pictorial interpretation board people will be encouraged to walk around the village taking in each one.
