Bolsterstone Castle Project
Location: Sheffield

The group wish to undertake a geophysical survey of the site of the former bolsterstone Castle. This will be combined with an examination and study of the remaining building stones, and extensive archive research to uncover the history of the site. The community will be trained in the techniques necessary to undertake the work.

The area has been subject of village conjecture for many years and the group wish to discover the true identity of the castle or manor house.

The results of the geophysical survey will inform the placing of two small trenches to further investigate the structure and purpose of the building. The group has sought the advice and support of an archaeologist and he will provide assistance with surveying aspects and support the group in their study.

The findings of the surveys will be published in several formats; through local displays; technical reports, on the community web and in book form. The group also hope to display their findings in stocksbridge Library.
