Jean Barnaby, who has lived in Bolsterstone most of her life and has acted as main proof reader for the book, talks about her wedding day in 1959 at St. Mary’s Church
Ray Hulatt, who lived on the moorland edge of the village as a child, recalls watching the bombing of Sheffield from their elevated home above the Ewden valley, wrapped in a blanket, on the first night of the blitz.
The Challenge
Frances Tivey, who has compiled and edited the book on behalf of Bolsterstone Community Group said
“The greatest challenge was persuading people that their everyday memories of the past are important no matter how ordinary or trivial they appear. It has given local people of all ages the opportunity to come together and remember their shared heritage."
We hope that it will act as a springboard for others to come forward and recall their Bolsterstone memories for future generations to enjoy.
