What we achieved
Location: Sheffield

In July 2003 Bolsterstone Community Group received a grant of £7,447 from the Local Heritage Initiative Fund to cover the costs of two village projects.

The first part of the grant funded the renovation and interpretation of village sites and the second part of the grant paid for an oral history project. The resulting book Bolsterstone – 'In Living Memory' recalls the memories of village life in this moorland parish where time stood still for much longer than it seemed to do elsewhere.

The book was created following a series of interviews carried out with local residents by the pupils of Stocksbridge Junior School as part of an oral history project.
We are grateful for the Local Heritage Initiative grant that allowed us to produce and sell the first run of 500 copies. The proceeds from these sales have paid for a second run of 500 books which are now selling well and have so far raised £1250 for the group.

This money will probably be ploughed back into our new history project which again has been funded by LHI and is examining the origins and history of Bolsterstone Castle.” More information about both these projects may be found on the Bolsterstone Community Group web site
