Royd Moor Panoramic Viewing Point
Location: Sheffield

The community have chosen the sight for the Royd Moor Viewing Point at 700 ft above sea level.

The group would like to provide interpretation material to complement a 'viewing dias' they are creating (not part of this grant bid). The site affords views on a clear day of up to 50 miles away. The group will conduct research and learn new skills under the guidance of Sheffield University including Oral History training days to uncover the heritage of the landscape.

On site interpretation will include boards and an engraved map indicating local heritage features. A leaflet and material for the Penistone area website and the LHI website will be produced. Access works are included in the costs.

The project will raise awareness of agricultural heritage (including field systems, Cruck Barns), Industrial Heritage (weavers cottages, Old Nail forge, Iron forge) and transport routes (packhorse trails, ancient salt routes).

Pennine Town Council will maintain the site in the long term.
